What’s the big difference? Aren’t feathers and down the same thing? Not exactly. The difference lies in the presence or absence of the quill. Down is nature’s best insulator and is the cluster of natural fibers taken from the breast of a goose or duck. It contains thousands of fibers but no quill and provides insulation and loft to the finished product. The best indicators of quality in down are Fill Power, which measures how much space an ounce of down fill, and Cleanliness. The higher the fill power, the better the down will loft, trap air and insulate.
Feathers, on the other hand, do contain a quill which has support benefits when used in bedding products. So, whether you choose Down or Feathers for your high quality feather bed you will get the best quality that money can buy.
