Thread count is the actual number of threads in one square inch of cloth. The higher thread count fabrics are woven with finer yarns, more durable, more luxury, more breathable and contain a tighter weave to prevent leaking. That makes them the lightest and therefore able to have the maximum ability to loft. A minimum of 230 thread count is necessary to be considered leak proof, which prevents down and feathers from leaking. When choosing your down comforters, bedding sheets, down alternative comforters or down pillows always check your thread count and don’t let it be under a 230 thread count.
